Job Summary: The Radiology Technician/X-Ray Technician is responsible for providing quality diagnostic radiology services including performing X-ray examinations, ensuring radiation safety, maintaining imaging equipment, and producing accurate imaging results to support diagnosis and treatment. The role ensures compliance with standard radiology protocols, infection prevention measures, and proper documentation.

Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan, is looking for a competent Radiology Technician/X-Ray Technician based at RHC Shagram, Upper-Chitral in Chitral Region. 

Key Responsibilities:

A. Radiology and Imaging Services

  • Perform routine X-ray examinations as prescribed by the Medical Officer/Consultant.
  • Ensure correct positioning of patients and proper exposure settings for accurate imaging.
  • Perform imaging for chest, limbs, spine, abdomen, and other basic radiological procedures as per facility scope.
  • Provide support in emergency imaging services when required.
  • Ensure patient privacy, dignity, and comfort during procedures.

B. Patient Preparation and Counseling

  • Verify patient identity and confirm the requested examination.
  • Obtain brief patient history relevant to radiology procedures.
  • Explain procedure to patients and provide guidance for cooperation.
  • Identify contraindications, especially pregnancy status in female patients, and inform the Medical Officer when required.

C. Radiation Protection and Safety

  • Ensure radiation safety measures for patients, staff, and attendants.
  • Use protective equipment such as lead apron, thyroid shield, and protective barriers.
  • Ensure proper signage and restrict unauthorized entry during exposure.
  • Maintain radiation exposure records as per applicable regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with national radiation safety guidelines and facility SOPs.

D. Equipment Handling and Maintenance

  • Operate X-ray machine and related equipment properly and safely.
  • Perform daily checks and ensure machine is functioning before starting services.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment as per manufacturer guidelines (with technical support).
  • Report equipment malfunction immediately and coordinate repairs through supervisor.
  • Ensure safe handling of cassettes, films, CR/DR plates, and accessories.

E. Film Processing / Digital Image Management

  • Process X-ray films properly (if conventional system is used).
  • Maintain dark room and processing chemicals as per standards.
  • Ensure proper storage and labeling of X-ray films and reports.
  • Manage digital radiology system (CR/DR/PACS) if available.
  • Ensure image quality and repeat procedures only when necessary.

F. Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)

  • Ensure cleanliness and disinfection of radiology room and equipment surfaces.
  • Follow IPC measures while handling patients with infectious diseases.
  • Ensure safe waste disposal and maintain hygiene standards.
  • Use PPE as per infection control protocols.

G. Documentation and Record Keeping

  • Maintain radiology register including patient details, type of X-ray, date, and referral source.
  • Record repeat exposures and reasons for repeats.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance log and radiation safety checklists.
  • Assist in preparing monthly service statistics and reports for facility management.

H. Coordination and Referral Support

  • Coordinate with OPD, emergency, and wards for timely imaging services.
  • Support doctors by ensuring timely availability of films/images.
  • Facilitate referral of complicated cases to higher-level radiology centers if required.
  • Support emergency response during accidents and mass casualty events.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma in Radiography / Medical Imaging Technology from a recognized institute.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Training in radiation safety and digital imaging systems is an advantage.
  • Valid registration with the relevant council/authority
  • Ability to operate CR/DR imaging systems and basic computer skills
  • Results-driven, ethical and adaptable professional with a strong service and stakeholder focus.
  • Strong integrity with the sensitivity to manage confidential information.
  • Demonstrates superior organizational skills and the agility to multitask and assume changing strategic responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
