Job Description: Food Security & Livelihood (FSL) Officer
Position Title: Food Security & Livelihood (FSL) Officer
Location: Jacobabad, Sindh
Project: WASH & Livelihood Support for Affected People
Reports to: Project Coordinator
Job Purpose
The FSL Officer will lead the implementation of interventions aimed at reducing reliance on negative coping strategies among affected populations. This role focuses on diversifying food sources and establishing sustainable, climate-resilient livelihood options through market-based assessments, climate-smart agriculture, and vocational training.
Key Responsibilities
1. Market Assessment & Strategy
- Conduct a comprehensive Livelihood Market Assessment, including a baseline survey of trader networks and monitoring food price inflation with a 15% threshold to inform interventions.
- Identify and select small farmers and women households for agriculture and kitchen gardening support based on vulnerability criteria.
- Ensure all FSL activities are characterized as purely humanitarian in nature, focusing on immediate support for affected people.
2. Climate-Smart Agriculture & Kitchen Gardening
- Organize and provide capacity-building training on climate-smart agriculture and water-efficient practices for small farmers and women.
- Supervise the distribution of agriculture tools and seeds per acre to beneficiaries.
- Lead the Kitchen Gardening initiative, providing training, seed packages, and tool kits to women households to improve household food diversity.
3. Vocational Training & Market Linkages
- Facilitate basic vocational and market skills training for a targeted individuals to enhance employability.
- Organize and lead Market Exposure Visits for individuals to help them explore and diversify income opportunities.
- Collaborate with the BCC Officer to integrate nutrition and food diversity messaging into community awareness sessions.
4. Monitoring & Impact
- Utilize the need assessment tool to evaluate how livelihood interventions impact household stability.
- Document lessons learned regarding climate-resilient livelihood options in the specific context of Jacobabad and Sindh.
- Track the technical soundness of interventions against the findings of the initial market assessment.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Master’s degree in Agriculture, Sociology, Economics, or a related field.
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in managing FSL projects, particularly in rural Sindh. Experience with kitchen gardening and vocational training is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of climate-smart agriculture, water-efficient farming.
- Languages: Proficiency in Sindhi, Urdu, and any other local language.

- Strong commitment to transparency and peer-to-peer mentoring within community networks.
- Ability to work in the high-temperature environment of Jacobabad while managing field-based distributions and trainings.
